Police investigate violent carjacking at Wells Fargo

ATLANTA — Police are investigating a shooting and carjacking outside of the Wells Fargo bank off Cascade Road in southwest Atlanta.

News Chopper 2 flew over the scene at about 3 p.m. when police were interviewing a woman who said her Mercury Marquis was stolen.

Her daughter’s fiancé, who reportedly borrowed the car, was shot in the backside. He was recovering at Grady Memorial Hospital, officials told Channel 2’s Craig Lucie. Family members said he is undergoing surgery.

"They stole my car. I don't know if he was going to the bank and got in trouble. They robbed him. I don't know, and they stole my car though, I do know that," the woman said.

A witness said he saw two cars speed off after the incident.

"We were standing outside smoking a cigarette when all of a sudden we heard pow, pow. I had my back turned and there was all this shooting so I turned around and saw two cars pull out," witness Jay Chandler told Lucie.

Another witness said the stolen car later sideswiped another car in a nearby neighborhood.

Meanwhile, the woman whose car was taken from the bank parking lot is asking for people to be on the lookout for a 2005 teal Mercury Marquis with a handicapped tag.
