Police investigate fatal shooting in southwest Atlanta

ATLANTA — Atlanta police are still searching for whoever shot and killed Rodney Stafford, 24, across the street from Gideons Elementary School.

Stafford's uncle Ivan Brown told Channel 2's Richard Elliot this is not the first time the family has dealt with this king of tragedy.

"Man-Man(Stafford) was loved. Lost a brother a few years ago and we really haven't recovered from that," Brown said.

Brown says a MARTA police officer shot and killed Stafford's brother at a MARTA station four years ago.

Stafford spoke with Channel 2 Action News when we reported the story four years ago.

MARTA says Stafford's brother was armed, and the officer involved was cleared.

Investigators are still trying to figure out why someone would want to murder Stafford in the street.

Brown says the family is just trying to endure another tragedy.

"The family's not going too well right now, but we going to get through it. We gonna get through," Brown said.

Police canvassed the area looking for the suspect and possibly the driver of a getaway car.
