Police: Family stole from at least 15 Target stores

ALPHARETTA, Ga.,None — Alpharetta Police said a series of shoplifting thefts in metro Atlanta was a family affair.

A mother, her sister and her 16-year-old-daughter are among five people arrested for stealing $1,700 in merchandise from Target stores.

Police say Lolita Lumpkin, 41, Jessica Lumpkin, 23, Rayshard Banks, 23, and two juvenile girls were caught shoplifting CDs, DVDs and clothing from the store near the North Point Mall on Saturday night.

A Target loss prevention officer told Davis the group may have taken items from 15 other Target stores and when they walked in Saturday night, employees had already been given pictures of the three adult suspects.

“They were putting the items under their clothing and attempting to leave the store,” Officer JJ Howard told Channel 2’s Diana Davis.

“They were coming in and out. The adults would come in and meet with the juveniles, and then go back out and they saw the juveniles put some things under their clothing,” Howard said. Store security called police who made the arrests immediately.

Police told Davis one of the teenage girls was also carrying a stun gun disguised as a cellphone.

In addition to shoplifting charges, Lolita Lumpkin faces child cruelty charges for involving her daughter in the alleged scheme. All three adults face felony charges that carry a maximum 10 year prison sentence if they are convicted.
