ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. — A convicted felon is back in jail after a chase ended in an unusual way.

Channel 2's Craig Lucie has learned that the man police were looking for got stuck in a drainage ditch.

Conyers police were forced to call Rockdale County firefighters to come get him out.

While rescuing Joe Hobson Jr., crews at the scene made sure to document the situation.

"It was unusual," said Conyers police Sgt. Kim Lucas.

Lucas told Lucie that police pulled Hobson over on I-20 Thursday after investigating him for allegedly dealing drugs in a Conyers neighborhood, but he took off.

Police said Hobson ran about half a mile from I-20. Authorities eventually secured a perimeter in an industrial area.

They launched a drone to help with the search, but it didn't help.

"Ultimately, good old boots on the ground saw shoes on the ground," Lucas said.

Hobson has a long criminal history and now it's longer.

"He has several felony charges. In the vehicle, he had coke, meth, marijuana, liquid codeine and two firearms. One was stolen out of Covington," Lucas said.
