EAST POINT, Ga. — A 16-year-old has been taken into custody, accused of sexual assault and armed robbery at a Metro PCS store in south Fulton County.

Demarquez Wagnerhas been charged as an adult.

Police say his crime is heinous, and they've linked his DNA to several other cases.

People who work in the East Point strip mall where the attack happened told Channel 2's Liz Artz that they are relieved the armed robbers are off the streets.

Artz spoke to the victim who was sexually assaulted. She did not want to talk publicly, but told Artz she is grateful her attacker is being charged as an adult.

"It wasn't just the robberies, you know? I'm glad police actually got them. You don't want them running around harming another person," said Dave Ahn, who manages the Metro PCS off Washington Road.

Ahn said the store is a family run business, and since August, he told Artz he's been worried about his female employee who was working the day these two teens came with guns, held up the store and then sexually assaulted the young clerk.

"We knew they were young guys. We didn't want them to be tried as juveniles," Ahn said.

Police say it was Wagner who was behind a white mask in surveillance video from the night of the attack.

He's been charged with kidnapping, armed robbery, false imprisonment among other charges including the sexual assault.

"The level of violence and the heinous nature of sexual assault made it one of our primary cases we were investigating as an agency," said East Point Police Capt. Cliff Chandler.

Chandler said DNA was collected after the assault.

"Not only did it match up to the Metro PCS robbery, it has been linked to other criminal investigations taken place in metro Atlanta," Chandler said.

Detectives also think they've identified the second gunman. He's in custody on unrelated charges.

"It starts at home, you know? That's why do what we can to give back educate and discipline the kids," said barber Chuck Black, who works in the same strip mall as the Metro PCS store.

Police said the suspects left that day in a stolen silver Ford Fusion.

Police say the getaway driver was a female, who goes by the nickname Shae. They're still looking for her.
