AMERICUS, Ga. — Members of a church in south Georgia weren't able to pray over sick people in their community in person, so they did the next best thing.
Parishioners from the LifePoint Church in Americus surrounded Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in their cars Saturday night, flashing their lights in solidarity.
Hospital CEO Brandi Lunneborg posted video of the drive-thru prayer chain, thanking churchgoers for their well-wishes during this difficult time.
The Georgia Department of Health said Dougherty County, where Albany is, has over 50 cases of the virus.
Americus and Albany have been particularly hard-hit by the coronavirus in Georgia. The hospital reports over 100 confirmed cases of the deadly virus across its three facilities and at least six deaths as of Sunday.
Nurse Patty Bueker also posted video of the unique prayer circle.
"A big thank you to all that came out to surround our little hospital with love and prayer," Bueker wrote. "Amazing!"
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention visited the hospital’s main campus on Saturday to give officials more guidance on the outbreak there.
