ATLANTA — The Atlanta Department of Watershed Management is warning about a potential water scam that could put your personal information at risk.
People in some Atlanta neighborhoods have received a flyer asking for a water sample and their personal information.
“I think it’s a little bit bizarre,” one neighbor said.
The Department of Watershed Management sent out a warning saying that someone pretending to work for the city has gone door to door with flyers asking neighbors for water samples as part of what the flyer claims is a community water test.
The city wants everyone to know that it did not send the flyers.

In a statement, The Department of Watershed Management said, “We advise our residents to be on alert for potentially misleading communications and to be cautious about providing personal information and access to your homes to unknown sources."
The city said it is not conducting any water testing and would never ask a third party to do so on the city’s behalf.
“If there’s somebody going around door to door and trying to gain entry or personal information, I hope somebody can catch them and they can put a stop to it,” a neighbor said.
The city has not been able to share which neighborhoods the flyers have appeared in, but if you receive one, they said to call 311.
