Officers honored for pulling man from burning car

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — Two Maryland police officers were honored as heroes after pulling a man from a burning car on the side of a highway.

Officers found a 34-year-old man unconscious in a car engulfed in flames next to the concrete barrier on Interstate 495.

Officer Cody Field ran to the car and Officer Brian Nesbitt followed. Both men pulled Rashad Israel from the flaming car.

Video of the rescue was never shared by the officers. Department superiors weren't aware of the video until a colleague requested the duo be honored for heroism.

The men shook the hand of Israel for the first time at the police ceremony.
