SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — A Sandy Springs cryotherapy clinic is facing a negligence lawsuit after a woman said she was injured during a fall.

Vonetta Keit told Channel 2’s Mike Petchenik she went to Diamond Mist Cryotherapy Spa to rehabilitate an injured shoulder. Cryotherapy involves immersing your body in subzero temperatures while standing inside of a metal tank.

“It’s cold. Very, very, very cold,” Keit said.

Keit said she’d gone to the clinic three times, and on the fourth time, about 18 months ago, she said she was overcome by nitrogen gas in the tank and passed out.

“It’s cold and I’m breathing a lot of cold gas,” she said. “It never hit me that I wasn’t breathing oxygen that particular time.”

Keit said when she came to, her head hurt and she was in a chair, covered by a bathrobe.

“I knew something happened because of the pain and I’m outside the tank,” she said.

Keit is suing Dimaond Mist for negligence, claiming the technician and owner should have done something to prevent her from being injured.

Her lawsuit seeks damages for her medical expenses.

“We want to raise awareness that if you’re injured, the responsible party needs to step up,” attorney Mark Schaeffer told Petchenik. “Cryotherapy is maybe the type of treatment we don’t know enough about. Is it real treatment? Is there a benefit?”

Petchenik called and emailed the business, but didn’t hear back.

He also went to the location to see if someone there would talk to him, but an employee called the police instead.
