ALPHARETTA, Ga. — For the month of August, Georgia has seen more than 82,000 new cases of Covid-19. Data analysts at Alpharetta based, IPC Global say the data shows Georgia is trending in the right direction.

“In the whole month, we’re down 40% from where we were,” said IPC Global Managing Partner, Mark Meersman.

August started with logging more than 3,500 new cases a day. That number has dropped to now just over 2,100 daily new cases in Georgia at month’s end.

The 21-day trend shows new case increases happening in smaller Georgia counties like: Bullock, Baldwin, Clarke, Chattahoochee and Hall counties.

IPC Global has tracked the data since the pandemic started. Analysts believe we have a way to go before we will see lower numbers.

Meanwhile, Fulton, Gwinnett, DeKalb, Cobb and Richmond counties have shown a dramatic drop over the month. They have up to eight less daily cases of COVID-19.

Though Fulton and DeKalb counties are showing a decrease in the death rate, August saw the number of deaths increase statewide.

“We increased 42% or we’ve increased to about 67 deaths per day,” said Meersman.

Georgians saw new cases increase after the July 4th holiday, but Meersman is hopeful that lessons learned then will stop a repeat increase after the upcoming Labor Day weekend.

In Georgia, since schools have returned to instruction, Meersman noted the data has not shown a marked spike in cases.
