COFFEE COUNTY, Ga. — A 75-year-old man was arrested on Sept. 21, 2026, in connection with an alleged sexual offense from approximately six years ago.
The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office say they took David Kirkland into custody and charged him with one count of child molestation.

Detectives say they initiated an investigation on Sept. 21, 2026, immediately after receiving a report regarding the past incident. Through multiple interviews, investigators say they found probable cause for the arrest. Kirkland was transported to the Coffee County Jail, where he remains in custody awaiting adjudication.
The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office says Kirkland is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Following the arrest, the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office addressed the multiyear gap between the alleged offense and the report.

“The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public that it is never too late to report a sexual crime,” the agency said in a statement. “Victims may carry the effects of sexual abuse or assault for years before feeling able to come forward.”
The sheriff’s office also encouraged community members to speak with law enforcement regarding any unreported offenses or supporting information. “If you or someone you love has been the victim of sexual assault or sexual abuse, do not remain silent. Speak up. Report it. Seek help,” the agency stated.
