CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — Two Cherokee County families are worried about a snake infestation in their kudzu-filled backyard after a snake bit an 8-year old boy.

The two homes are along North Arnold Mill Road just outside of Woodstock.

Yobirys Flores said she and her sons have spotted different variates of snakes crawling out of the kudzu field. One son spotted snakes slithering through a hole in her house's foundation.

Channel 2's Richard Elliot carefully opened the door to the crawl space and spotted snake skins hanging from joists and lying on the ground.

One snake bit 8-year-old Brandon Alvarado in the leg.

Luckily, the snake turned out to be non-venomous, but doctors kept him overnight in the hospital just to be safe.

His mother said she's spotted snakes in the ground around her house and hanging from trees in the backyard.

Cherokee County animal control said that if any resident spots a snake in their yard or in their home, they will be happy to come out and safely remove it.  Unfortunately, animal control officers cannot go into fields of kudzu to try and search out nests.

Kudzu, they said, is the snakes' domain.

Meanwhile, Flores said she will try and contact an exterminator to see what can be done about the snakes under her house and to see if they can put up some kind of chemical barrier to keep the snakes in the kudzu and out of their backyard.
