NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. — A well-known Japanese restaurant in Covington failed its most recent health inspection.

Some online reviews of Nagoya Japanese Restaurant in Newton County describe it as having great food and friendly service.

Some longtime customers were disappointed to learn that the restaurant got a health inspection score of 64 on Monday.

Janice Clark said she eats at the Newton County location all the time and loves it. She said she is shocked that it got a failing score.

Another customer, Jessica Clark, said she can't believe the restaurant would score so low because she's been going there for years.

The Newton County health inspector found an employee slicing garlic with bare hands, observed an employee cracking raw eggs into a spoon to scoop garlic butter and the person in charge not fulfilling food safety responsibilities.

We went to Nagoya Japanese Restaurant to find out what's being done to correct the violations. We were told that the owner wasn't there and would get back to us. We are still waiting for a response.

The restaurant was inspected two months ago. It got a C and then a B. We'll let you know the new score when it is reinspected later this month.

The inspector noted that the places where food is kept cold and places where hot food is held were working properly.
