Murder victim was trying to care for her elderly husband, neighbors say

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — An elderly Forsyth County man has been arrested and charged in the death of his wife.

Neighbors told Channel 2’s Richard Elliot that Deborah Field was trying to take care of her husband, Thomas “Pete” Field, who suffered from dementia.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office could not comment on Pete Field’s mental state until he goes through a full mental and physical evaluation.

The 84-year-old man turned violent towards his 81-year-old wife, according to Forsyth County police.

Deputies were called to the tranquil Collins Point Road at Lake Lanier by a neighbor Sunday night. They discovered Deborah Field suffering from several injuries. She died despite deputies giving her medical attention.

Neighbors told Channel 2 Action News that they believed Deborah Field was trying to care for her husband herself. They described her as kind and a friend to new neighbors moving into the serene lakeside community.

Thomas “Pete” Field is in the Forsyth County Jail charged with murder.
