ATLANTA — A man suspected in a deadly shooting is behind bars after the gun he fired at an officer narrowly missed a woman across the street.
Investigators said Joshua Barnes is being held at Fulton County jail on murder and several other charges.
Police said he was aiming at an Atlanta police officer when the bullet he fired hit Lisa Potts' 55-year-old northwest Atlanta house.
The bullet went through her front window, tore through the curtains and chipped a door frame before hitting the bathroom wall.
"If you just look how far it traveled, I mean if you had just been walking in the hallway, it could have hit you," Potts said.
The shooting happened on Cullom Street, about a mile away from where police said Barnes killed 60-year-old John Johnson. Police said Johnson was in a car near Dahlia Avenue when he was shot in the head.
Channel 2 Action News was at the scene where Johnson's relatives gathered while police gathered evidence nearby.
"We are in the process of verifying what information we have received from witnesses," Atlanta police Lt. Paul Guerrucci said, who said he could not say what led to the fatal incident.
Potts, the affected homeowner, is now also a witness with a story to tell and the proof to go with it.
"It really brought home that you can be in your own house, minding your own business and anything can happen," she told Channel 2's Sophia Choi.
