UNION CITY, Ga. — A man is in jail, accused of killing a longtime friend in front of the victim's mother in Union City.
Police said Michael Shane Black shot Benjamin Netherland, 43, multiple times Sunday afternoon. Netherlands' mother witnessed the shooting.
Witnesses said Black pulled up to Netherland's house on Raymond Terrace, called him to come outside, and then allegedly opened fire. Netherland's mother says she begged him to stop shooting.
"We were in the house when we heard some gunshots and I came to the door and Ben had turned around and the guy was standing there and he was still shooting and I was running toward the guy saying 'stop, stop, stop' and he just looked at me," said Sandra Netherland.
Other witnesses called 911. Netherland later died at South Fulton Medical Center.
Black was arrested at his grandmother's house in Fairburn shortly after the shooting.
The Netherland's pastor, John Mays, who is also the victim's cousin, says he was just with him in church.
"First time he had prayed in a long time, he had come down to the altar and gave his heart to the Lord this morning," Mays said.
Black has been charged with murder.
