ATLANTA — A murder suspect once considered one of Atlanta’s Most Wanted fugitives is out of the hospital and in jail after a police chase ended in a fiery crash.

Vincent Steele, 19, faces a vehicular homicide charge after the crash, in addition to being wanted in connection with a 2024 murder.

Police said Steele was trying to run from officers after breaking into cars when he lost control and crashed into a utility pole, killing his passenger.

He had critical injuries and has spent months getting treatment in a hospital.

He’s spending his first full night in Fulton County Jail on Tuesday.

Police say an off-duty Atlanta police officer spotted Steele breaking into cars at an apartment complex.

Investigators say this surveillance video shows another suspect jumping into the getaway car as the officer tries to stop them.

Police say the driver takes off and moments later, another officer spots the car.

A short chase begins, but it ends just as quickly when investigators say Steele loses control, slams into a utility pole, and the car bursts into flames.

The responding officer jumps out and immediately realizes it’s a life-or-death situation.

Bodycam video captured him pull Steele away from the wreck before learning there’s another person still inside the burning car.

Police say the passenger did not survive.
