COBB COUNTY, Ga — A Marietta mother is accused of trying to hire a man on Craigslist to take her child to Macon.
Sheila Joyner responded to a Craigslist ad from a stranger who wanted someone to split the expenses for a drive to Sarasota, Florida.
Police say Joyner hoped the man would pick up her 9-year-old and take him to family members in Macon.
The concerned stranger called police and helped an undercover officer set up a deal with Joyner.
The mother, along with the child’s babysitter then dropped the child off at a Racetrack gas station on Delk Road in Cobb County.
Police said the mother didn’t even go with the child to meet the stranger and also lied to the babysitter, saying the stranger was a friend of hers.
Officials said at no time did the mother get any information about the stranger, as they only communicated through text messages.
She only knew him as “Eric,” a warrant said.
Police said Joyner deprived the child of adequate supervision or parental control and was charged with contributing to the deprivation of a minor/misdemeanor.
She was arrested and placed in the Cobb County Jail.
