Missing Georgia Tech student found safe

ATLANTA — Georgia Tech police say a first-year student who has been missing since Sunday has been found safe.

Caden Qiao, a first-year Georgia Tech student, was last seen on Sept. 13.

Officials sent out an alert on Thursday morning that Qiao had been safely located.

“We are incredibly grateful for this outcome,” said Georgia Tech Police Chief Robert Connolly. “It demonstrates the strength of our law enforcement partnerships across metro Atlanta. We thank every officer and agency that remained vigilant, shared information, and worked together to help bring our student home safely.”

Surveillance footage showed Qiao leaving Eighth Street East, a Georgia Tech residence hall, around 5:06 p.m. Sunday without any personal belongings.

He was later spotted on 17th Street near Northside Drive at 6:04 p.m.

His family reported him missing to Georgia Tech police around 10 p.m. Sept. 14.
