FLOYD COUNTY, Ga. — Floyd County residents will have an opportunity to voice their opinions on data center development this month before the county’s vote setting up regulations governing them.
The county’s proposal will only allow data centers in the heavy industrial zoning district. Safeguards and standards must be met before any permits are considered.
The county’s board of commissioners reviewed the proposed ordinance during its first reading Aug. 11. The second reading will include public comment and possible vote.

The public has raised concerns over potential data center development.
The board’s requirements are intended to address many of the concerns residents commonly raise about large data center projects: noise, utility and water usage, environmental impacts, and future land use.

Public comment and possible vote are scheduled for Aug. 25 meeting at 6 p.m. at the Floyd County Administrative Building located at 12 E. Fourth Ave. in Rome.
