DECATUR, Ga. — The city of Decatur is launching a citywide speed study to evaluate potential speed limit reductions on city-owned streets currently signed above 25 mph.

Municipal data collection is underway using black tubes stretched across roadways and cameras installed at select locations. These instruments are gathering information on vehicle volumes, vehicle speeds, vehicle types and bicycle and pedestrian activity.
The city is hosting three public meetings to outline the study process and detail how speed management measures can enhance overall street safety.
The first public meeting will take place Sept. 10, at 6 p.m. at the Decatur Recreation Center.
