GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Police say they're investigating the theft of two luxury vehicles from a dealership on Satellite Boulevard in unincorporated Duluth.

Gwinnett police Cpl. Jake Smith says a man who entered Audi Gwinnett through the service department Jan. 5 searched desks of sales personnel and stole key fobs for a 2015 Audi A8 and a 2015 Audi RS7.

Channel 2's Amy Napier Viteri obtained video of the incident.

"Pretty bold in that it happened during daylight hours," said Smith, noting that the thefts happened around 7:30 a.m.

Smith says the suspect bought a battery for one of the key fobs from the service department.

"At that point the employee goes about his business and the suspect seems like he's leaving; in fact, he's going through the showroom," Smith said.

Smith says the suspect and an accomplice returned to the dealership hours later, found the cars in the parking lot and drove away in them.

Smith says one of the cars is valued at more than $128,000 and the other is worth $95,125.

Police say they're checking to see if the men are linked to other thefts and believe this isn't their first time.

"Whether or not they're professional thieves so to speak; they've probably done this sort of thing before," Smith said.

Cases like these, or something called 'key swapping', in which thieves switch fake keys for real ones, is something police say they are seeing more often.

"Modern technology has actually made it easier. They can get the key, figure out which car it goes to later," Smith said.

Smith says a reward may be available for people with information leading to an arrest and indictment.
