DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb County police are investigating a fatal shooting at the Hyatt Hotel in DeKalb County, next to Stonecrest Mall.

Police said it happened at about 3 a.m. Sunday. They said they got a call about shots fired and that the man was fatally shot in the hallway of the fifth floor of the hotel.

Police confirmed they arrested Tito Ivey, 35, and said they have also recovered a gun in the case.

A witness told Gehlbach there were two gunshots and a man was killed in the hallway of the top floor of the hotel.

Police identified the victim in this shooting as Franklin Jones, 32.

The witness says Jones is a homeless man who was possibly staying at the hotel after someone or the hotel management tried to help him out.

Gehlbach reports the homeless man may have tried to rob another guest just before being shot.

A hotel guest told Gehlbach he saw a homeless man earlier in the day walking on I-20 and then later in the hotel where his family had a strange encounter with him at the hotel pool.

The guest says after the pool incident the hotel got the homeless man some dry clothes. He says he didn't know if the man was allowed to stay in one of the rooms overnight.

Police said they do not have enough information to talk about a possible motive and are not sure what happened that led to the shooting.
