Man says COVID-19 stress led him to attack, seriously injure 2 UGA grads with razor blade

ATHENS, Ga. — Police say two recent UGA graduates were attacked and seriously injured by a man with a razor knife Sunday.

The incident happened outside the Golden Pantry on North Milledge around 9 p.m.

Police said Eric Keith Mitchell, 29, attacked two women as they were leaving the store. They were both taken to the hospital. Their identities have not been released.

Mitchell has been charged with aggravated battery and aggravated assault. He's being held at the Clarke County jail.

"Mitchell cited stress from COVID-19 concerns as the precipitating factor for the unprovoked attacks," police said.
