The memorabilia included a red baseball batting helmet, a small baseball bat with signatures and “Georgia Sports Hall of Fame” written on it and a medal that deputies say he was wearing when he was arrested. Dawson allegedly took the items while the hall of fame was closed.

When Dawson arrived at the Tubman Museum after taking the items from the hall of fame, he was wearing a black dress and a red baseball helmet.

A museum attendant said he started yelling when he was told that the museum was holding a camp for kids and he couldn’t enter. He left, but then he came back, yelling that the kids needed to be at school.

The museum employee locked the door and called the sheriff’s office. Dawson was arrested on Cherry Street.

Dawson faces charges of criminal trespassing, felony second degree burglary and probation violation.
