FLOYD COUNTY, Ga. — A man is in jail charged with fatally shooting one gas station clerk and wounding another in separate incidents Tuesday night  in Floyd County.

Police say Lamar Rashad Nicholson, 28, walked into Hi-Tech Fuel on Burnett Ferry Road just before 9 p.m. Tuesday and shot the clerk, identified as Parmjit Singh, several times. Singh died of his injuries.

Police said Nicholson was in the store for less than 12 seconds.

"He didn't take anything. He didn't take any money. He didn't take any articles from the store. He just simply came in and fired off three rounds at the clerk and killed him," Floyd County police Sgt. William Wacker said.

Members of Singh's family said they are just beginning to mourn their loved one.

"I still feel like it's a dream. I can't tell, like, just trying to pinch myself and I say, 'Maybe it's a dream," but it's not," said the victim's brother, Serabjeet Singh.

Minutes after the first shooting, Nicholson walked into Elm Street Food and Beverage on North Elm Street, took money and then shot that clerk, according to investigators. The clerk, identified as Parthey Patel, was taken to Floyd Medical Center in critical condition, but is recovering from his injuries.

"He's talking. He's doing everything fine. He says, 'Yes, I"m out of the pains,' and the doctor takes car of it. Thank God for that," Patel's boss, Bipin Patel said.

Police quickly arrested Nicholson, who is charged with murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault and other crimes.

"I was devastated. I mean, what can you say? You live next door to a store and then it's awful," neighbor Florence Fowler said. "My heart is broken from all of it."

Police went back to the store to collect evidence, including surveillance video.
