PAULDING COUNTY, Ga. — At the Waffle House along Dallas Acworth Highway in Paulding County, Cynthia Morrison never forgets a face.
“We have a lot of people who come in here every day. They eat at Waffle House every day. And I know their names,” Morrison said.

“It’s just rare these days that every time you interact with somebody, they’re smiling and happy,” Godfrey said.
Joey Godfrey has been a regular for six years. Morrison is one of the reasons.
But Morrison was keeping a secret. When she recently missed a couple of shifts, Godfrey asked her why.
“She leaned in and said, ‘I got diagnosed with bone cancer. I was diagnosed back in March,’” Godfrey said.

Morrison has been with Waffle House for 37 years, so she has a lot of loyal customers and caring co-workers who are like family. And her family is rallying around her.
Godfrey set up a GoFundMe fundraiser online to help with the medical bills that are now coming in.
Morrison will soon need a bone marrow transplant and may be out of work for many months.

She’s not the kind to ask for help, and she had no idea she was so loved.
“I’ve had a few tears along the way,” Morrison said. “Hearing them say I was their favorite waitress really lifted my spirits.”
