Local mother says she was wrongfully handcuffed in front of her children

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — Local parents are outraged that deputies put them in handcuffs in front of their small children.

They say they were headed northbound on Georgia 400 when deputies swarmed their truck.

"They all got out of their cars. They drew their weapons," said Angela Senior.

She said this was anything but a routine traffic stop.

"I told (deputies) 'look here, I have three children in that vehicle. I have a seven-year-old in the vehicle,'" she said. "I have a 10-year-old and a 17-year-old and I don't want anything to go wrong here today."

She says the scene on highway was tense.

Deputies reported that the black Dodge Ram that the family was in, matched the description of a truck that was used to run two women off the road during an armed robbery on the same highway.

Due to the nature of that incident deputies carried out a felony stop and called in backup.

One by one Senior says her family was ordered out of the truck with their hands up, and then told to kneel on the ground.

"My kids they're crying and hysterical, and my son he's ticked off because the police have a gun pointed at his mom," said Kippy Senior who was driving the truck.

"The only people they didn't handcuff were the two little girls," said Angela Senior.

According to Forsyth County incident report, deputies were looking for two young black males who robbed two women of their cell phones and purses after running them off of the road. Deputies say the males were driving a "big black Doge Ram."

Kippy Senior's truck is a black Dodge Ram with a lift kit.

Still, Angela Senior believes the stop went on for too long and went too far.

"We were a family, we weren't two males in the car," she said." She believes deputies should have been able to see that they weren't the suspects.

"At what point did our physical description not meet the criteria," said Senior. "When they saw my kids? That wasn't good enough for you?"

Deputies let the family go on their way after looking into the truck and not seeing stolen purses or the grey and red hoodies that the robbers were reportedly wearing.

Senior says her children were affected.

"I really feel that that was a traumatizing situation," she said.

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office provided the incident report to Channel 2 Action News, but wouldn't comment on Senior's concerns. They say that's because she hadn't filed a formal complaint. Senior says she called Monday afternoon to start that formal process.
