Lawsuit: Former city employee hurled racial slurs

HALL COUNTY, Ga. — A Gainesville famly is afraid after they say their neighbor yelled racial insults at them and pointed a shotgun in their direction.

Attorney Ashley Bell says his legal team is filing the lawsuit at Hall County Court on behalf of a family driven from their rental home, because of racial slurs slung.

According to Bell the worst of it happened two or three years ago when a SWAT team responded to the neighborhood when Roy Turner Jr. allegedly pointed a loaded gun towards his neighbors.

That episode led to misdemeanor probation, and his neighbors decided to file a lawsuit.

"I've said that porch m----- word," Turner said. "I've used it before."

When Channel 2's Mark Winne asked why Turner called his neighbors porch m------.

Turner replied, "Well they was sitting out here acting like fools. Hell I've even pulled a gun on 'em man. They was acting crazy out there."

Channel 2 Action News obtained video showing an incident where Turner yelled "porch m-------" at his neighbors.

The lawsuit against Turner and the City of Gainesville says Turner worked for the city's solid waste department.

The lawsuit alleges Sophia Bonds contacted the city multiple times to report Turner's behavior, and suggests the city refused to take action to prevent Turner from abusing the family.

An attorney who used to represent Turner said he suffered a traumatic brain injury which influenced whatever happened between Turner and his neighbors.

The attorney tells Winne he does not consider Turner a danger to his community.
