Police end search for shoplifting suspect who ran into woods in Sandy Springs neighborhood

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — Police have ended an extensive search for a theft suspect who ran into a wooded area in a Sandy Springs neighborhood Thursday. The suspect remains at large.

Roswell police confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that the suspect fled after committing a theft at a Walmart in Roswell.

According to Sandy Springs police, the suspect drove into a neighborhood near Hannover Park and Dunwoody Place before abandoning the vehicle and running into the woods.

The search prompted a large police presence in the area, with Sandy Springs police initially asking people to stay clear.

Roswell police said officers conducted an extensive search but were unable to locate the suspect.

“After an exhaustive search, he was not located. Our officers are clearing from the immediate area to conduct further follow up to take him into custody on his charges,” Roswell Police Department spokesperson Officer Tim Lupo said.

Sandy Springs police previously told Channel 2 Action News that they did not believe the suspect was armed. No injuries were reported.

Police have not released additional details about the suspect or the theft.
