Kelly and Matt Stafford expecting 4th child less than a year after her brain surgery

DETROIT, Mich. — Former University of Georgia quarterback Matt Stafford and his wife Kelly have announced that they are expecting another baby less than a year after Kelly had brain surgery.

The couple announced they are expecting on Instagram during a family trip to Disneyland Sunday.

“Baby Stafford #4 due this summer (no worries, well before training camp),” Kelly wrote. “We won’t know whether the Stafford kids will continue as a girl squad or if a little brother will enter the craziness until baby is here. Excited and exhausted!”

Last year, Kelly had surgery to remove a benign brain tumor known as an acoustic neuroma, which can affect a person's hearing and balance.

Kelly said she went to the doctor because she experienced several episodes of vertigo. A team doctor for the Detroit Lions, who drafted Matthew Stafford with No. 1 pick in 2009, recommended for Kelly Stafford to have a MRI, which revealed the tumor.

In April 2019, Kelly underwent surgery to remove the tumor, which turned into a 12-hour ordeal after doctors saw an abnormal vein.

The surgery was a success -- she did not lose hearing or facial functions -- but she did have a long road to recovery that she detailed on Instagram.

The Staffords met at UGA as undergraduates and have three daughters, identical twins Sawyer and Chandler and younger sister Hunter.
