GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — UPDATE: The Johnny’s Pizza in Dacula was re-inspected on Oct. 13th and received a perfect score of 100.
The owner of a popular Gwinnett County Pizza restaurant says it is totally out of character for the restaurant to fail an inspection.
Johnny’s NY Style Pizza in Dacula got a 64 on a health inspection Tuesday. Johnny’s Pizza is a franchise restaurant with various locations around metro Atlanta.
One Gwinnett resident told Channel 2’s Carol Sbarge she has eaten at the pizza place on Dacula Road before and now is concerned about what she is eating there.
The inspection report says the inspector found a mold-like buildup inside the ice bin.
Other violations included an employee grabbed a lemon with bare hands, the meat slicer was not properly cleaned and floors and walls had grease build up and old food debris.
Sbarge went to the Johnny’s Pizza to ask about the failing score. She was told the manager was out of town.
He called Sbarge on Thursday. Michael Plant says he is reinforcing training for workers. He says his restaurant usually has high scores.
The restaurant’s previous score was a 90 after an inspection in January.
Plant says he guarantees a failing inspection score will never happen again. One customer says she hopes that is the case because the food is usually pretty good.
We’ll let you know the new score after the re-inspection this month.
