DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — Deputies finally wrapped up three straight days of a searching a home in an upscale community on Friday afternoon.
It has neighbors on edge, concerned about their safety. The home is in a newly-built neighborhood on Langdale Chase Street in Douglasville.
Channel 2’s Tom Jones spent the day trying to confirm if the investigation at the home is connected to a body found nearby. Sources in law enforcement say the two are connected.
Neighbors say this is not the type of activity they expect in this upscale community.
“It’s concerning being that we wasn’t made aware of what was going on,” said homeowner Ronda Brown.
People in the Windermere community were very concerned for their safety after seeing deputies and crime scene tape surrounding the home for days.
“One of the people walking, they told, the police screamed for them to go back into the house and lock the door,” Brown said.
Deputies would only say they are conducting a search warrant in conjunction with an active investigation.
A law enforcement source told Channel 2 the search is connected to a man’s body found May 15 at the Dog River Reservoir about two miles from the home.
Deputies had posted tattoos on social media as they asked the public for help identifying the body.
Jones asked the sheriff’s office if the two cases are connected. A deputy said he was on the right track but couldn’t say more.
Neighbors say they understand deputies can’t reveal much about why they were here. But they say they need to know something for their own peace of mind.
“But the fact that we’re all in this neighborhood and we have children, grandchildren, everything running around. We need to know,” Brown said.
Deputies took all kinds of items out of the home, including what looked like a reciprocating saw and surgical gloves.
There were evidence markers next to air fresheners and cleaning supplies.
Deputies say they will have more to say about this investigation Monday.
