UNION CITY, Ga. — Police in south Fulton County said five home invaders that shot and killed a couple and critically injured their two sons targeted the family.
The shooting happened on Tartan Court in Union City around 11 p.m. on Saturday.
Union City police have identified the victims as Conswellow Bell, 39, and her husband, Shannon Bell, 35. The couple's two sons, ages 19 and 12, survived the attack but suffered serious injuries.
Monday morning, police said there was no sign of forced entry at the home and they believe the home was specifically targeted. Police said investigators discovered evidence of ongoing illicit activity within the home. They do not believe the shooting was a random act.
"And now their mother and father are gone. How do you tell them that? What words can you say to children that their mother and father were shot? For what?" family member Cassandra Rainey said.
Family members told Channel 2 that at least five men kicked in the back door at the family's home and may have been looking for money.
"All of them had guns. They say it was like, five guys. They ran in on them. They came in and started shooting," family member Graylen Rainey said.
A relative said the family is still mourning the loss of Conswellow Bell's father.
"We just buried her father three weeks ago and then there goes a tragedy just like this – just happening," Graylen Rianey said.
Police would not say if they have any suspects.
