GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — An incredible series of events led to a dramatic rescue of a minutes-old baby in metro Atlanta.
A woman in labor was being rushed to the Gwinnett Medical Center by her mother when they got into an accident and crashed into a power pole on Lawrenceville Highway in Lilburn last week.
In the crash, police said the newborn popped out and tumbled away inside the SUV. In the chaos of everything, the mother and daughter couldn’t find the baby.
“I gave birth in the car,” the woman told the responding officer.
Bodycam video from officers showed them rushing to help the family and tending to everyone in the SUV.
Officers Daniel Bride and Cepeda Huff helped find and pull the premature baby from under the front seat. The umbilical cord was still attached to the baby.
The baby was rushed to the ambulance where it was then taken to the hospital.
The mother and daughter were not injured, and the baby is being treated at the NICU at the hospital.
“I’m very proud of our officers,” said Lilburn Police Chief Bruce Hedley. “Their quick thinking and teamwork helped save the life of this newborn.”
