BRYAN COUNTY, Ga. — Two major companies are investing billions of dollars into Georgia and bringing thousands of jobs with them.
Channel 2′s Richard Elliot joined U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff in a virtual news conference on Friday morning where the senator announced a joint investment of $4.3 billion by Hyundai and LG to bring a plant to build electric car batteries to coastal Georgia.
The plant will be built in Bryan County, near Savannah.
The Democratic senator says the plant is the result of incentives in the Inflation Reduction Act.

“Those manufacturing incentives are continuing to accelerate economic development and investment in jobs here in the state of Georgia,” Sen. Ossoff said.
Republican Governor Brian Kemp’s office says this was part of a larger deal announced before the passage of the IRA. His office says this is part of the original site plan announced by Hyundai last year.
“This is exactly what we envisioned when Georgia landed the Hyundai metaplant in May of last year, and this project is the latest milestone in Georgia’s path to becoming the EV capital of the nation,” a statement from the governor’s office read.

Channel 2 Action News was at the site in October as Gov. Kemp and Hyundai’s CEO broke ground on the massive plant that could bring up to 8,100 jobs.
“Since 2020, we’ve announced 30 electric mobility-related projects that will ultimately bring over $13 billion in investments,” Gov. Kemp said.
Kemp and Ossoff agree that electric vehicle mobility is important to the future of the state’s economy.
“These are good, paying jobs that continue to establish Georgia as a world leader in advanced energy manufacturing and innovation,” Ossoff said.
The new plant could be up and running by the end of 2025.
