ATLANTA — Hurricane Isaias has strengthened into the first hurricane of the 2026 Atlantic season.
As of 5 a.m. Thursday, Isaias is a Category 1 storm with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph. The National Hurricane Center will release its next advisory at 8 a.m.
Severe Weather Team 2 is going over the latest data and track, LIVE on Channel 2 Action News This Morning from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m.
The hurricane is on track for a landfall along the Gulf coast on Friday night. Hurricane warnings have been issued for coastal Alabama and the western Florida panhandle.
Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Eboni Deon says the most widespread local impact from Isaias will be heavy rain and possible flooding where the heaviest rain bands develop.
Deon says there is also a severe weather risk for Saturday for much of north Georgia with a low end risk for tornadoes.
