COBB COUNTY, Ga.,None — Police arrested a former hospital worker who they said pulled a prank that had dozens of doctors and nurses searching for a critically ill patient who didn’t exist.
An arrest warrant obtained by Channel 2’s Ross Cavitt states Heather Hallock anonymously called the Intensive Care Unit at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital on Sept. 25 and reported a critical patient in full arrest on the fourth-floor elevator.
The call sent at least 37 members of the emergency staff from multiple floors racing to the area with crash carts, the report said. Hospital staff could not locate a patient, so they called two other nearby hospitals and asked them to check their intensive care floors for a patient.
An hour later, the same woman called the hospital again and identified herself as “Heather” to a nurse. The nurse told police she recognized the voice as Heather Hallock and hospital officials immediately determined both calls were a prank.
Police issued a warrant for Hallock and she was charged with obstructing and hindering an emergency medical technician. She was released from the Cobb County Jail on $10,000 bond.
