ATLANTA — Extra security is in place to deal with what's expected to be the busiest single day ever at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
Atlanta police vehicles are lined up outside the airport, ready for a record-setting day.
"And they're alert so that makes me feel they're ... watching out for us," traveler Carolyn Fernandez said.
APD is using extra officers and extra overtime at the airport Sunday.
This holiday, the busiest travel day of the year, comes during a global travel alert with warnings of increased terror threats.
"It's frightening, but it's also comforting to know that there's people looking over your shoulder," traveler John Kitts said.
The Transportation Security Administration is also ready.
"TSA pre-check to your right," one TSA agent said.
Eighty-eight-thousand people will be passing through the airport Sunday. The TSA has brought in every available agent to keep the lines at the checkpoints moving.
One traveler told Channel 2's Steve Gehlbach she flew back home a day early just to avoid what happened to her last year.
"I was held up in security forever. The line was wrapped around and that was just excruciating," traveler Jeannine Coates said.
But so far Sunday morning, passengers seem to be moving smoothly, despite the crowds and increased security.
"It does make a lot safer with a lot of stuff that's going on right now," Coates said.
The TSA recommends getting to the airport at least two hours before your flight today.
