GAINESVILLE, Ga. — A former Captain with the Gainesville Fire Department has died.
James “JJ” Thomas Johnson, 72, of Gainesville, died on Monday, July 24 at his home after an extended illness.
Johnson retired with the rank of captain from the fire department after 25 years of service.

He also worked for the Northeast Georgia Medical Center and retired after 38 years of service.
Johnson was also a soldier in the US Army and served two tours in Vietnam.
His funeral will be held on Sunday, July 30 at the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home.
