GAINESVILLE, Ga. — A man has died after police say he was shot in a Walmart parking lot Wednesday night.
Gainesville Police confirmed Thursday morning that 81-year-old James McDaniel, of Lula, died after he was shot outside the store on Shallowford Road.

Officers responded to the store around 7 p.m. after reports of gunfire in the parking lot. Investigators say they believe McDaniel was an innocent bystander.
Gainesville police requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s help with processing the scene. They are asking for anyone who has information on the shooting to call 911 or submit a tip online.
Channel 2 Action News tried calling the store to find out when it will reopen, but received no response.
