HALL COUNTY, Ga. — A seven-year veteran on the force was fired after an internal investigation.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that Deputy Corey Alexander was terminated Sunday for having an "inappropriate relationship with a female on house arrest." %

"I would not expect that to happen," said Jeannie Norberg, one of Alexander’s neighbors.

"You have to have some evidence and believe it," said neighbor Robin Edwards.

Investigators found enough evidence to fire the 30-year-old deputy.

A Sheriff's Office spokesperson told Channel 2’s Carl Willis that Alexander worked under the jail division for Hall County, specifically with the work-release program.

That's where investigators said he encountered a woman and began the relationship in question.

"This is shocking to me," Norberg told Willis. "He's supposed to be protecting us..."

Willis went by Alexander's home Tuesday night but no one answered the door.

Some of those who know the family man said they need to know more.

"Seemed like a really good dad, involved with his kids," Edwards said. "They're a great religious family. We love their kids; we love all of them."

They said Alexander’s sudden dismissal and this allegation seem out of character.

"If it's true, not knowing everything, I don't want to believe something that could be hearsay," Edwards said.

The ongoing investigation will determine if Alexander will face any charges.
