GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Gwinnett County police are searching for the person who shot and killed a 19-year-old Monday night outside a McDonald’s restaurant in Dacula.
Officers were called around 8:45 p.m. to the restaurant at 2443 Hamilton Mill Road where they found Kyree Shakur Smith inside a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville, where he died.
Police said a passenger in the teen’s car was there, along with a witness, attempting to give the teen CPR.
Police say Smith's passenger is cooperating and told them it might have been a drug deal. %

Gwinnett investigators said that was surprising considering where this happened.
"The Hamilton Mill area is quite unusual to have a homicide. We’ve got some really nice homes in that area, we’ve got a lot shopping centers, we’ve got a lot of traffic from people doing their holiday purchases, so it is quite unusual to have a homicide in this area,” said Gwinnett Cpl. Michele Pihera.
Police are now searching for a red car seen leaving the restaurant after the reported shooting.
Police said they are going over surveillance video in the area.
