Police: Man lied about his girlfriend’s shooting death, now facing murder charge

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A man is facing a murder charge after police say he lied to officers about his girlfriend’s shooting death.

Lawrence Gray called 911 on July 22 and told operators that his girlfriend, Katlyn Head, had shot herself in the head in a car on I-985 south in Buford.

Gwinnett County Police homicide detectives inspected the scene and the evidence in the car. They later took that information to the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s office where the autopsy determined Head’s death to be a homicide.

Authorities obtained warrants for Gray on July 31 for aggravated assault, aggravated battery and felony murder.

Investigators believe that there still may be witnesses in this case who were on the interstate that day. They are urging anyone who may have seen this incident on I-985 or captured it on dashcam to come forward and contact the police department.
