Gwinnett Fire rescues person from burning apartment building, officials say

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A victim trapped during an apartment fire was saved by Gwinnett Fire on Monday.

Firefighters responded to a report of an apartment fire at 476 Huff Street in Lawrenceville just before 8 p.m. on Monday. Fire officials said multiple callers reported that their apartment building was on fire and people were trying to escape.

When fire crews arrived, they found a two-story, multi-family dwelling on a basement with heavy fire blowing through a breezeway located in the center of the building. Fire officials said they saw a victim waving his hands from a second-story window on the corner of the building.

Firefighters safely rescued the victim from the building.

Officials said a man was treated and released for nonlife-threatening injuries related to the fire and no other injuries reported.

The American Red Cross will be working with apartment management to secure shelter for the displaced occupants during repairs.

The cause of this fire was undetermined.
