GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Gwinnett County Police are investigating after gunfire tore through a family’s home Monday night near Meadowcreek High School.
It happened around 8:30 p.m. off Steve Reynolds Boulevard when someone came over asking about something involving a teen in the home.
“First somebody came knocking on the door and explained this little situation that was happening at school,” a family member said.
Forty minutes later, another person showed up at their home.
“They didn’t give us no time to react and just opened fire. About seven to nine shots,” the family member said, who asked to remain anonymous.
The family dove for cover as bullets ripped through their house. One round hit the refrigerator. Others flew through walls where a 3-year-old child was inside.
“When it happened, I locked the door. My brother saw that he heard the gun cocked back. He told me to lock the door, run in my room and duck,” the family member said.
The family member’s brother was grazed by a bullet on his hand and needed stitches.
“Thank God it was a grazing only too,” the family member said.
The HOA says nothing like this has happened in the normally quiet neighborhood in 30 years.
GCPD investigators are searching for a black SUV seen leaving the area. The family hopes someone recognizes the vehicle and helps investigators find who’s responsible.
“The sooner the better,” the family member said.
