GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — UPDATE: The Einstein Bros. Bagels was re-inspected on May 12 and received a perfect score of 100.
A well-known chain bagel place in Gwinnett County failed a recent health inspection.
Einstein Bros. Bagels describes its restaurants as your neighborhood bagel shop. It was quite a surprise to customers that the Lawrenceville location on Duluth Highway got a score of 51 on a May 2 inspection.
Customer Michael Larson says if he had known that he wouldn’t have gone in.

Violations included black debris buildup observed on the interior of the ice machine, multiple potentially hazardous foods, including potato salad, not cold enough and cans dented on the seams.
During the last inspection at the Lawrenceville Einstein Bros. Bagels in December, it got a score of 92. When we asked management about the big dropoff in the scores we were referred to the corporate office. We have not heard back from anyone at the corporate level.
The inspector also described seeing some leaks, including in the ceiling between the kitchen and front service area.
Larson says the low score puts in question the way the food was prepared.
We’ll let you know the new score when the restaurant is reinspected this month.
