Crash in Lilburn intersection causes driver to run into Popeye’s

LILBURN, Ga. — After being involved in a crash while trying to make a turn, a man found himself and his car inside of a nearby Popeye’s, Lilburn police say.

According to the accident report, a 31-year-old man told police that he was driving down Lawrenceville Highway on Wednesday. When he tried making a left turn, he says a second car crashed into his, causing him to lose control of the car.

The driver said he tried pressing the brakes, but they did not work and he hopped over the curb and crashed into the Popeye’s building.

The second driver claimed that he was sitting at the traffic light and began to drive once the light turned green. The 26-year-old says that as he did, the first car darted in front of him, causing the crash.

Several witnesses reported to police that the first driver ran a red light, according to the accident report.

Police say the crash remains under investigation.

Luckily, neither driver nor anyone inside the Popeye’s were injured during the crash.
