Gwinnett Animal Shelter to open for needed adoptions

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A Gwinnett County shelter needs your help saving dozens of dogs.

The county shut down the Gwinnett County Animal Shelter earlier this month after several dogs became sick and one died.

Shelter officials say the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine found one dog tested positive for pneumonia. Shelter officials say 23 dogs have shown symptoms.

Officials say they need families to adopt remaining, healthy dogs by Sunday because they’re out of space.

Hours of Operation:

  • Saturday: 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.
  • Sunday 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

They are reopening the shelter on Winder Highway on Saturday and Sunday for adoptions. The county is also cutting the price for adoptions.

Staff members have begun treating the sick dogs and don't consider any of them to be in critical condition. Officials say they are grateful for donations from individuals, businesses, and veterinary offices throughout the region.
