DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Three metro Atlanta cities are working together to institute a $3 million traffic light synching plan.
Crews are working to synch lights from Roswell Road East to Ashford-Dunwoody and Johnson Ferry Road North to Mount Vernon Road.
There are 100 lights spanning through Dunwoody, Brookhaven and Sandy Springs included in the plan, which was funded by a $2.8 million grant from the Georgia Department of Transportation.
So far, only the lights on Ashford-Dunwoody have been synchronized, but it should not take long for all 100 lights to be synchronized.
Drivers gave mixed reviews to Channel 2's Amanda Cook.
"I think it has helped a lot. The traffic flows a lot better, especially in the mornings," driver Patricia Diggs said.
"I can't tell. Normally, if you're leaving after 4:30, it's backed up miles, and it takes an hour just to get on (Interstate) 285. So, there's no way in the world these lights are synchronized," driver Marchelle Sumpter said.
Later this month, engineers are expected to coordinate the lights on several other streets around Perimeter Mall.
